BUSY QUARTER AHEAD
Still time to get in the ABCD Texas Scramble before the entries
close on July 4. Get an entry blank on our website, ccmga.net,
or in the CCMGA box in the Pro Shop.
If match play is your thing, you need to get your Match Play Tournament
entry in before July 5. First round matches begin July 11 with the
championship round scheduled for the week of September 12.
August brings two tournaments. Test your game against the field in
your flight in the Individual Stroke Play Tournament on Sunday,
August 1.
Take a break from the heat by getting in the Member/Member,
Member/Guest Two Man Better Ball Tournament at Prescott CC on
Saturday August 14.
Entry forms for both August tournaments will be available on
our website and in the Pro Shop early in July.
The Club Championship will be up for grabs in September. The
dates for our second "major" of the year are Saturday and Sunday,
September 11 and 12. To be eligible for this tournament a member
must have, within the past 12 months, participated in at least two
CCMGA tournaments in which tournament scores are posted for handicap
purposes.
HIGH FIVES TO…..
The father and son team of Fran and David Wolcott who will represent
CCMGA in the AGA's Annual Team Championship to be played in December.
They won this honor with a victory in our Two Man Scramble Tournament
in May.
Jerry Keith who will have his name inscribed on our President's Cup
plaque as the 2004 Champion. Jerry posted a 135 against a tough field
to be the combined net winner in our first "major" of the year.
Course Superintendent Bob Lytle and his crew who used the limited
resources they had to keep the greens, tees and fairways watered
after both wells that serve the course failed a few days apart.
Diane, Mike, Barry, Roger, "Flo" and Adrian for their help whenever
we needed it this year. Our relations with the Pro Shop have seldom
been better, and we will do our part to keep the lines of communication
open.
CAVE CREEK MARKS 20TH ANNIVERSARY
Highlight of the celebration will be a Red, White and Blue Tournament
on July 3. In this event, players will use alternate tees on each hole.
There will be a 7:00 AM shotgun start. Your $25 entry fee includes greens,
cart and tournament fees. Check with the Pro Shop staff for more details
on the tournament and other anniversary events.
The Snack Shop will feature $1 drinks and $1 hot dogs as part of the
celebration
HALF A CUP IS BETTER THAN NONE
The 2004 Encanto Cup matches between teams from the city's four
(Augila did not compete this year) 18 hole municipal courses was
won by Papago. As far as the rest of the standings are concerned
let's just say CCMGA had an off day.
However, we did manage to garner a tie in the 2004 Sergeant's Cup
matches. We retained the cup because it was already in our possession
This traditional three-day event, which uses a modified Ryder Cup format,
pits the CCMGA Board against the Pro Shop and Maintenance staffs. The
matches are named in honor of the late Chuck Sergeant, a member of
Cave Creek's first Pro Shop staff.
WHAT'S THE YARDAGE?
We all should be asking that question a lot less after more than 200
sprinkler head yardage markers are put in place later this year. They
are made of Lexan and, with reasonable care, should last for a long time.
A donation of $1,000 by your association covering about half the cost
of the new markers made this course improvement project possible.
SPREAD THE WORD
You can help us grow as a golf association by telling non-member
golfers you know about our Mid-Year Membership Sale

DIANE REPORTS…
Electric golf carts are coming to Cave Creek. Their arrival is dependent
on how quickly the cart barn can be equipped to maintain the battery
powered vehicles.
Point of Sale Terminals are still a possibility this year. Their
installation will make it sooooooo much easier for our members to
use their gift certificates, and reduce our postage costs.
Phoenix City Council's approval of the Golf Divisions' plans to
refinance its long term debt will provide additional funding for
much needed improvements to all city courses, including Cave Creek.
How this additional funding is to be allocated is yet to be determined.
But you can bet Diane will have her "wish list" in early.
STAY IN TOUCH BY E-MAIL
With postage costs restricting our newsletter mailings to once a quarter,
the easiest way for us to stay in direct touch with you is by E-mail.
If you can receive E-mail, we urge you to put your address on our website
Directory as soon as possible. You will find instructions for getting
on the Directory on the ccmga.net Home Page. Just remember it is a double
opt-in process. That means that after you enter your E-mail address, you
will receive a return E-mail asking you to confirm your desire to be listed
in the Directory.
It is also important that you update your E-mail address when you change
service providers.
VOLUNTEER RANGERS
A volunteer ranger program is being tried at some city courses
including Cave Creek. All the volunteers will receive training
before starting their duties. They also will be required to
play the course regularly so they can become familiar with its
characteristics, and be able to answer any questions golfers
may have.
If you, or someone you know, would like to participate in this
program, you can get more details from the Pro Shop staff.
And should you encounter a volunteer ranger during one of your
rounds, please show them the same courtesies you expect from them.
