ALL HAIL TO...

Charles Richards won the Presidents Cup with a score of 140. Congratulations!

VARIETY MARKS OUR TOURNAMENTS

On August 1st we will be playing our Member/Member or Member/Guest Tournament in
Prescott, and then August 15th is an Individual Gross & Net Tournament. September
12th and 13th is the Club Championship.

CCMGA TOURNAMENT HANDICAPS

Our Policy for handicaps used in tournaments is that we use either your USGA Handicap,
or your Tournament Handicap which is calculated using the best 3 of the last 5
Tournament Scores….whichever is lower. The Handicap used is the one that was current
on the Tournament Entry Deadline date

A GOOD INVESTMENT.

There are many benefits to membership….
You know what they are but you might want to pass this item on to a potential new member:
* Monthly tournaments that appeal to all handicap levels
*The Thursday RAZZ to keep your game sharp and competitive
*The opportunity to get involved in Junior Golf or Board activities *Membership in the
Arizona Golf Association which gives you a USGA handicap good anywhere you play
*An annual banquet at no additional cost and
*most important, The association with other members who, like you, want to foster good
fellowship while preserving the integrity of the game.

Remember…from July 16th thru August 31st a new member can join for the remainder of the
year for $50 and from September 1st thru October 15th it goes down to $40.

PROTECTING THE FIELD

Just a note about 'Protecting the field'. If you see someone violating the rules of golf,
it is your responsibility to call it to their attention. It may be that the person is
unaware and is in danger of being disqualified if the error is not corrected. If you
witness a violation and ignore it, you are in violation of the rules yourself. One of
the reasons that we try to not allow 'judgement' calls by players is that it would not
be equal from foursome to foursome. We all want to feel that everyone in every other
group is playing by the same set of rules. So if one foursome is giving 'gimme' putts
and allowing players to move their ball in the fairway, and the other groups don't
allow it, it is unfair to the rest of the field. Stick to the rules and it's fair for
everyone.

PROTECTING THE COURSE

Please help us keep the course in good condition. We have a large bin full of sand
between the 1st and 10th Tees. Fill up your bottles and fill up the divots. Always fix
your ball mark on the green and try to find another one to fix if you have time. And
please obey the signs and try to keep the carts as far away from the greens as possible.
Everyone likes to have a nice grassy surface to chip from when near the green instead of
chipping off of bare dirt where people have been driving their golf carts.

ANOTHER BANNER YEAR
CCMGA is a "players" club. It is not unusual to have more than 100 players in our monthly
tournaments. The same can be said for the Thursday RAZZ.

We've added more than 100 new members so far this year, a tribute to the recruiting
powers of our longtime members.

We appreciate the support you have given to Junior Golf, and your volunteer efforts
when needed.

FROM THE TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE:

The CCMGA tournament schedule continues in full swing with the April President’s Cup,
May ABCD, June Eclectic & July Two Man Scramble tournaments. Congratulations to all of
the winners! We continue to have good turnouts and the pace of play is improving.
Upcoming tournaments include the August Gross/Net & September Club Championship events.
Please note that the August G/N is a 6:00 AM shotgun start. All entry fees, skins and
green/cart fees need to be pre-paid with your entry form. Entries will not be processed
without full payment! As a final reminder, all CCMGA events are conducted under the
Rules of Golf as defined by the USGA. We as members and competitors have the responsibility
to play by the rules and protect the field. Attach the minimum payment required for
tournaments to your entry form. Entry forms without the minimum payment attached (see the
entry form) will not be processed.

Get your entry in on time (usually the Sunday before the tournament). Late entries
(past the Sunday due date) will only be considered on a best efforts basis by the committee.

Review the CCMGA No Show policy posted in the cafe and Pro Shop to avoid losing tournament
fees and incurring penalties.

FROM THE SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE:

Mark your calendars for the Prescott tournament scheduled for August 1st at the Prescott
Country Club. The format will be two man best ball.

SLOW PLAY CAN BE CURED IF YOU REALLY WANT IT TO BE

An in-depth study of slow play by the USGA concluded that "very few golfers hold up play
intentionally; they are just thoughtless or have never learned to play alertly." The study
also noted that "If every player would show the same courtesy to those playing behind as
is shown to his own group - everyone would benefit." Following are the highlights of that
study:

The chief cause of slow play is time lost on the putting green. As much as two minutes
can be saved on every green if:

1. You park your cart where someone does not have to walk back to get it.
2. On approaching the green, take any other club you may need with your putter. If you have
the wrong club, tell your playing partners they may play out of turn.
3. Once on the green, study the line of your putt immediately unless doing so interferes
   with another player.
4. Never replay a missed putt; never mark your score while on the green; and leave
   immediately when play is completed.
5. The player who has the honor on the next tee should go there immediately. Let someone
    else bring the cart.

SLOW PLAY FROM TEE TO GREEN

1. Put head covers on while walking or riding to your next shot.
2. Take the cart directly to the ball that is "away." Once there, the other player should
take the clubs he thinks he will need and go to his ball.
3. Check your watch frequently so you can make the players with you aware of whether you
   are playing too slowly.

The report concluded "that there is no single thing that can be done to speed up play.

Playing, without the annoyance of constant delay involves many little things. Some will
save minutes, others will save seconds. But when they are all added up, a half hour can
easily be taken off the time it usually takes to play a round of golf.

Unfortunately, if only one group plays without consideration, the time wasted creates
delay for all the players behind."

The bottom line is that you don’t have to rush your shots to play fast, you just need to be
thinking about how to save time on everything else involved in the game.
